Selous Game Reserve

 

With 50.000 km² it is the biggest game reserve in Africa and covers 5% of the national territory. In 1982 it was announced as world nature heritage by UNESCO. The diversified landscape with the savanna, the woody grassland and the big Rifuji River it is the home for thousands of animals. But only 10% of the Selous game reserve is used for the photo safaris and offers untouched areas and routes to discover great nature. To be close to the wildlife there are the best opportunities by boat- or walking safari.

 

Best travel period:

 

June to February – in the big rain season (mid march – may) the game reserve is closed for cars

 

Wildlife:

 

Zebras, giraffes, antelopes, gazelles, wildebeests, primates

 

Elephants, buffalos, hippos, rhinos, crocodile

 

Lions, leopards, hyenas
