The Serengeti


The Serengeti national park is with 14.500 km² one of the biggest and most famous national parks in the world. As one of the oldest ecosystems of the world it became world natural heritage of UNESCO in 1981. The name originates from the word ‘siringuti’ from the language of the massai – the folk living in this area – it means ‘endless land’. The Serengeti is well known for the plain savanna in the center of the Serengeti and the big migration of thousands of zebras, wildebeests and gazelles.

December to march – migration is situated than mostly in the southern parts of the Serengeti
