Ol Doinyo Lengai

Ol Doinyo Lengai

(3 days / 2 nights)

Ol Doinyo Lengai is an active volcano in the east African rift valley. It is situated about 120km west from Arusha close to Lake Natron, a famous salt lake and the home of thousands of flamingos. The name means ‘mountain of God’ in the language of the Massai. Concerning to the long drive to the Massailand we recommend to include the climb in a safari to the northern Serengeti. The Lengai is attractive for hikers and climbers who are looking for something exciting besides the touristic trails.

Day 1

Early in the morning you will meet your driver and start the long drive to Lake Natron by passing the village Mto Wa Mbu where you will have a short break for lunch to visit the colorful markets. In the early evening you will arrive at the campsite where you will relax with the view on Ol Doinyo Lengai.

Day 2

After breakfast you have two possibilities. Either you make an amazing drive around Lake Natron to the hot springs or you do a little hike to the Engare Sero Waterfalls for a swim. In the afternoon you will relax and get a briefing concerning the climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai.

Day 3 (Summit night)

At midnight you will drive for about one hour until the slopes of Lengai where you will start your hike equipped with headtorch, walking stick and water.
