Lemosho Route

 

(7 days / 6 nights)

 

This route is secretly known as the most beautiful and most natural route to climb Kilimanjaro. You will ascend Kili from the western side and descend on the eastern side of the mountain so you have the chance to discover the mountain all around. In 7 or 8 days you will reach the top and return with amazing impressions.

 

Day 1

After leaving Moshi with your whole team you reach the Londorossi Gate after an about 3,5 hour drive to enter the national park. You have to sign in, the luggage will be weighed and you drive another 45 minutes trough rough road until you reach the starting point. From here you will hike about 2-3 hours to reach your camp for the night –Mti Mkumbwa Camp (2.795m).

 

Day 2

After an early breakfast you will start today’s tour through the heather moor zone which will take up to 8 hours (14km). The hike is pleasant and leads you along narrow trails surrounded by heather and tall grasses until you reach Shira Camp 2 (3.850m) – tonight’s camp.

 

Day 3

Today’s hike of 6-7 hours will help you with the acclimatization. In the morning you will ascent up to the Lava Tower (4.430m) by passing a rocky desert with rock formations and amazing views before you descent in the afternoon to the Barranco Valley until Barranco Camp (3.960m) to stay for the night.

 

Day 4

The first part of the day is the most energy-sapping part. You have to pass the famous ‘Barranco Wall’ or also called ‘Breakfast Wall’ which takes about 1-1 ½ hour. After that a stony plateau with a breathtaking view on Kibo is waiting for you. From here you hike up- and downhill for 2-3 hours until you reach Karanga Camp (4.035m) in the early afternoon.

 

Day 5

With just 3-4 hours hiking by passing the highland dessert you should use the day to refill your energy and to get mentally prepared for the next night. The amazing views on the glaciers and the valleys will accompany you until you reach Barafu Camp (4.640m). The afternoon you will use to get ready and relax for the big night.

 

Day 6 – Summit night

Calculated with the prior days your guide will wake you between 11:30pm and 1 am to start your ascent to the peak of Kilimanjaro. Equipped with head torch, tea and snacks you will pass through loose volcanic scree up to the first milestone – the Stella Point (5.740m). Enjoy the rising sun and take a rest before you take the last altitude differences to the roof of Africa – Uhuru Peak (5.895m). After a few minutes to glory the majestic view over the world you will descend back down to Barafu Camp for a short break, before descending further until Mweka Camp (3.080m).

 

Day 7

After a long and power refilling sleep you will make your way down to Mweka Gate (1.800m). Your transport is waiting for you to bring you back to your accommodation for a desired rest and shower.
